Hundreds of folks visit Ijams every summer asking about the sunflower fields. Although the fields are not on Ijams property, we are happy to point people in the right direction! The sunflowers are actually planted by TWRA at the Forks of the River WMA, a property located just down the greenway from Ijams.

This year, the sunflowers are planted in a new location. Park in the small TWRA gravel lot off of McClure Lane, then walk about 0.5 miles down the gravel road to the fields. They peak around July 4th, and will start to fade approximately 7-10 days later. All of the fields are now well past their peak bloom and are going to seed (as of August 4). Until next year, please enjoy this lovely photo taken by our very own naturalist-storyteller-journalist-photographer-extraordinaire Stephen Lyn Bales.
