Teacher workshop at Ijams Jan. 26

Tuesday January 26, 2010
KAMER: Ijams, area museums host event

Ijams Nature Center is hosting a three-hour teacher in-service workshop at no charge to the participants. This workshop is open to all public and private school instructors, grades K-12, working in East Tennessee (Anderson, Blount, Grainger, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier and Union Counties). This workshop will be held on Tuesday, January 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The objective of the workshop is to familiarize instructors with the programs and services offered by Ijams Nature Center and other members of Knoxville Area Museum Education Resources (KAMER). In addition, teachers will all participate in a hands-on workshop that will provide them with classroom activities, lesson plans and teaching materials related to their curriculum areas. Teachers will have an opportunity to visit information tables and speak with KAMER representatives including Debbie Woodiel, McClung Museum; Kevin Hills, Knoxville Zoo; Sandra Gammon, Ramsey House; Lisa Oakley, East Tennessee History Center; Ken Mayes, American Museum Science and Energy; Gavin Luter, Baker Center; Anna Schad, Marble Springs; Nicholas Mariner, Blount Mansion and Rozz Martin, Knoxville Museum of Art. Representatives will talk about their programs and services for schools.

Ijams outreach coordinator, Emily Boves and I will represent the nature center and also do a presentation discussing both outreach and on-site education programs and will conduct a live animal presentation as an example of what students experience. To register, please call 577-4717 ext. 10.
