Another Volunteer Year Draws to a Close

Friday December 30, 2005
Volunteer Coordinator Patti Brown thanks Ijams' devoted volunteers in this year-end article.

This past year was especially exciting for Ijams. We saw many familiar faces return: members, volunteers, staff and friends.  Welcome back! We've missed you. We also had many new faces join our "family." We'd like to welcome our newcomers, and thank everyone for your dedicated support. We've said it many times but we truly appreciate all you do. Only with your help can the Ijams staff continue to work to fulfill the mission of the Nature Center.                                                                                                      I have been very fortunate to spend as much time as I have, over the years, here at Ijams. If you are able, I suggest you walk the trails as often as you can. Not only is it good for you, but you just never know what (or who) you might see here. If you have a little time to spare and would like to volunteer, we will have lots of opportunities for you to choose from this coming year. I suggest working with several of the staff here in different areas. Get to know some of the staff and you'll understand why I've been a volunteer here for so long.                                                                                                                                       This year I've added many wonderful memories to those I already cherish: learning the Alligator Song, Michelle running over me with her wheelchair, actually being surrounded by owls during an Owl Prowl. I've seen many changes in the 13 years I’ve been here, and I cannot think of a time that I have been more excited to call Ijams home. I've made many wonderful friends here. Some of them are no longer around, but their influence on Ijams and our memories of them will live on.                                                                           Again, thank you for being part of our caring and devoted “family.” I look forward to seeing you as often as possible in the new year!
