The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Rummage Sale and Why We Call it That

Monday April 17, 2006
Learn how you can do your part for your enviroment and Ijams Nature Center by taking part in the Sixth Annual Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Rummage Sale.

From June 5 through 9, 2005 Ijams Nature Center will begin taking donations of items to sell at the Sixth Annual Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Rummage Sale.  The Sale will take place on Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.                                                                                                                                                                   We know that Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is a long name for a rummage sale, but the name explains why the sale is so important.  When you bring us your lightly used, unwanted items you reduce the amount of clutter in your own environment and, by not throwing the item away, you reduce the amount of solid waste taking up our landfills.  When landfills fill up, more green space and natural areas are taken to become the next landfill.  When you bring your things here for us to sell, you give another person the opportunity to reuse what you would have thrown away.  Buying or selling something for reuse is another way to recycle, just as you would cans or plastic bottles, because you’re keeping something from being thrown away by using it in another way.
Taking part in Ijams’ Rummage Sale is a fun and easy way to improve our environment by reducing, reusing and recycling, but it has even more benefits.  The funds raised at the sale benefit Ijams’ Education Department, whose mission is to teach more people how to live in environmentally positive ways.

tart gathering your unwanted tools, kitchen items, toys, furniture and other household goods for the rummage sale.  If you are unable to bring items to the center, call Ijams and we will arrange to pick them up. Then, make sure to come to Ijams for the sale! There promises to be an eclectic mix of lightly used household goods for a reasonable price.  Your purchase benefits Ijams Nature Center and, in turn, the East Tennessee  environment and our community.
