Outdoor Adventure Camp 2017

Online Registration opens February 24.

Located minutes from downtown Knoxville on 300 acres of beautiful woodlands with nature trails, a winding creek, rock climbing, historic buildings, a lake, and animal exhibits, Ijams Nature Center offers a unique setting for its Summer Outdoor Adventure Day Camps.

With our serene setting and emphasis on re-connecting children with nature and history, Ijams Outdoor Adventure Day Camp is able to offer a variety of exceptional activities with an amazing staff that love to teach and recreate in the outdoors. It is our goal to grow individual confidence, group cooperation, outdoor skills, and environmental responsibility among all of our campers.

Ijams Adventure Camp is open to ages 6 through 12. Kids must either be 6 years old, or have completed one year of Kindergarten to attend Ijams summer camp.

Camp Registration: This year, we are offering online registration for camp! Registration opens Friday, February 24 and we will provide the registration link on this website. Note: Each camp will be listed twice- one for each of the age groups (6-8 and 9-12). Be sure to select the camp that corresponds to your child’s age.

Camp Hours:  Monday through Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

  • Morning camp will be available from 8 – 10 in the morning. This session will consist of both structured and self-guided activities. The rate for Morning camp is $10 per day per child. After-camp care is also available from 4 pm – 5 pm. The fee for after-camp care is also $10 per day per child.

Camp Dates & Rates: See individual camp sessions below for specific dates, price, and information. Please note that there is a $35 change fee for switching weeks after registration is completed.

Camp fees include:

  • All activities (including off-site field trips and transportation)
  • Use of all necessary recreational equipment
  • Lunch and snacks each day
  • Reusable water bottle for each camper

Weekly Camp Themes

Week 1: June 5-9
Nature’s Heroes and Villains Week

There are many wonderful things we love about nature, but there are also things we fear or dislike about nature. The oft-dreaded poison ivy creeps up tree trunks and lines the trails, but is it a villain in nature, or just in Batman movies? Will you be able to figure out what is friend or foe in the outdoors? Maybe you’ll even discover some secret super powers of your own!

  • Ages 6-12 (Campers must be 6 years old or have completed one year of Kindergarten)
  • Hours: 10-4, lunch and snack included
  • Fee: $255 per person ($230 for Ijams members)

Week 2: June 12-16
Exploring Ijams Wilderness Week

Do you have what it takes to survive a week at Ijams? Adventure awaits as you make your way across the wilderness in search of shelter, water, and food. New and exciting discoveries are around every turn, and don’t worry—you’ll have a map and compass to help you find your way. Get off the beaten path and uncover all the secrets Ijams has to offer!

  • Ages 6-12 (Campers must be 6 years old or have completed one year of Kindergarten)
  • Hours: 10-4, lunch and snack included
  • Fee: $255 per person ($230 for Ijams members)

Week 3: June 19-23
Time Traveling Explorers

Only time will tell what adventures you’ll have this week! Ijams holds many secrets about its past, and this camp will explore them all! Join us as we travel through time to meet some of the pioneers of the land, study geologic formations, and uncover artifacts that were long forgotten. You won’t need a time machine to have a blast this week… or will you?

  • Ages 6-12 (Campers must be 6 years old or have completed one year of Kindergarten)
  • Hours: 10-4, lunch and snack included
  • Fee: $255 per person ($230 for Ijams members)

Week 4: June 26-30
Aquatic Adventures

This week is packed with wet and wild fun as we journey underwater! Discover the amazing and sometimes elusive world of aquatic life at Ijams. This week is dedicated to getting up close to the plants and animals that call the ponds, creek, and river home. What will you discover during your watery quests?

  • Ages 6-12 (Campers must be 6 years old or have completed one year of Kindergarten)
  • Hours: 10-4, lunch and snack included
  • Fee: $255 per person ($230 for Ijams members)

*Membership must be at the family level or higher AND current at the time of camp in order to be eligible for the member discount. Members can email Lauren to receive a discount code that can be used to receive the reduced fee. If the Family Membership lapses prior to the start of camp, you will receive an invoice for the remaining balance on the full cost of camp.
