Volunteer

VolunteerVolunteers keep Ijams growing in many different ways. They are an integral part of our education programs, our development activities, and our grounds maintenance. Their dedication and generous donation of time make things run smoothly. Staff alone could not accomplish the growth we have experienced in the past few years.

Volunteers work in four main areas:

Volunteer Field Guides lead school field trips through the gardens and trails and enable us to maintain the 1:10 teacher/pupil ratio that helps make our programs so popular with schools. Volunteer Day Counselors to help with Nature Day Camp in the summer are also needed.
Grounds volunteers work year round to maintain our beautiful perennial gardens and nature trails
Clerical volunteers provide much needed help answering the phone and assisting with general office work
Volunteers plan and implement our fundraising events, including Symphony in the Park, Fall Festival and Plant Sale, and our annual membership campaign.

We owe our volunteers a very special thanks for their dedication and commitment to Ijams Nature Center. If you would like more information about our volunteer oportunities, please contact the Volnteer Coordinator, Sheila at (865) 577-4717 or you may email her at sgoforth@ijams.org.
