About the Event

Bouldering rocks! Join a team of Ijams naturalists to navigate this unique ecosystem as you climb and reach for a new hobby. This program will include bouldering 101, how to fall safely, streching routines, climbing demos, and opportunities to climb Ijams' bouldering routes. Unlike traditional rock climbing, bouldering does not include ropes, harnesses, or the use of any aids. Instead, participants will rely on their own bodies to climb to heights no greater than 12 feet. Helmets and crashpads are provided by Ijams Nature Center. *Please continue reading for crucial information regarding bouldering at Ijams Nature Center*

Ages: 18+

Children are not permitted on bouldering trips

Accessibility: Bouldering at Ijams is a very rewarding activity, but also physically and mentally demanding. Participants are expected to stay with the group during the hike to the bouldering location, and remain with the group during the group climbs. No previous knowledge is needed, but be aware that there could be physical and mental challanges, such as high heart-rates and a 10-12 ft elevation from the ground. Please consider these qualifiers in light of your own capabilities before signing up for this program.

Meeting Location: Please meet us at Meads Quarry! Look for storage pods on the left side of the main pakring lot (as you enter) and a sign that sas Ijams Nature Classroom. This is right outside of the parking lot where an Ijams' staff member will meet you.

Clothing: Participants are advised to wear clothing that is appropriate for the weather. Pants are recommended to protect the legs while climbing. Wearing layers and athletic clothes that dry quickly is advised. Clothing may get dirty while climbing.

Footwear: Participants are advised to wear close-toed tennis shoes with minimal sole. Thick soles can hinder your ability to climb because they will not grip as easily to the boulder, or give you a good feel for the rock. Sandals, crocs, or heavy shoes are NOT recommended. Please bring climbing shoes if you have them! We cannot currently provide climbing shoes for this program.

Parking: Parking for this Ijams Education Course is free for all participants. Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the course begins to obtain a free parking pass upon check-in. If you have been issued a yearly membership or parking pass, you're all set! To learn more about Ijams membership opportunities, visit: ijams.org/membership

Refund Policy: No walk-ins will be accepted. Every participant must have a ticket. Ijams only awards full refunds for any cancellations up to 7 days before a program, or if Ijams cancels a program due to inclement weather. Refunds are not awarded for programs with fees of $5 or less for any reason. Tickets are non-transferable.
