About the Event
Recommended for ages 6 and up
Description: This hour long walk will provide you with all of the cicada info to impress your friends and family. We will catch cicadas, identify the 3 species in Brood X, learn the difference between male and female, and discuss the basic biology and ecology of cicadas. By the end of the hour you will be a certified expert on periodical cicadas, or at least have a deeper appreciation for these astounding arthropods.
Materials Participants Should Bring: Smartphone or camera, walking shoes, a journal to take notes, hat, water bottle, and sunscreen.
Information to Note: We will be catching cicadas in nets, and holding them in our hands. Please come mentally prepared to get up close with these insects.
Location: This program meets at Ijams Nature Center, and we will spend the entire hour on the trails enjoying periodical cicadas.
No walk-ins will be accepted. Every participant must have a ticket. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Ijams awards full refunds for any cancellations up to 7 days before a program, or if Ijams cancels a program due to inclement weather.
Refunds are not awarded for programs with fees of $5 or less for any reason. Tickets are non-transferable.
