Featuring:
- Bird Banding Station - Get a behind-the scenes look at how scientists capture birds, how they are banded, and why banding is important with certified master bander Mark Armstrong! This year, the bird banding station will capture ALL birds, including hummingbirds! Remember: Like most birds, hummingbirds are MOST ACTIVE early in the morning, so your best chance of seeing a ruby-throated hummingbird is at the beginning of the event! NOTE: To ensure your safety, entry will be staggered for the bird banding station and will be limited to 15 ticket holders every 30 minutes. PLEASE note which time slot you sign up for!
- Live Raptor Demonstrations - Learn more about owls, hawks, falcons, and other birds of prey.
- Community Science Opportunities - Learn how to do real research now! It's easier than you think!
- Naturalist Walks and Dip Netting - Head out to the trails and ponds to look for butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, birds, and other winged creatures!
- Meet the Ijams Animals - Get up close and personal with the animals who call Ijams home.
- Educational Materials for Parents and Families - Get fun educational materials to work on with kids at home.
- Sponsor Booths
Space is limited and safety protocols are in place to ensure your safety! Preregistration is required. This event will be held on the Homesite Lawn.
The Ijams Hummingbird Festival Celebration of Wings 2020 is sponsored by HomeTrust Bank and Tennessee Wildlife Federation.
