Ijams Field Day: Fun with Fungi (adult program)

Recommended for ages 18 and up.

Description: Get ready for a FUN(gi) time! This field course will take us out into the forest in search of the diverse mushrooms and fungi that are hiding in plain sight. We will seek out coral mushrooms, bird nest fungi, polypores, boletes, chanterelles, and whatever else is fruiting in the woods around the Ijams Nature Center. This class will delve into the use of dichotomous keys and spore print colors for identification of the plethora of fungi found in east Tennessee.

Materials Participants Should Bring: Comfortable trail walking shoes, a journal to take notes, hat, water bottle, snacks and sunscreen. Optional: camera, binoculars, hand lens, and fungi field guides.

Information to Note: This program is led by Nickolus Stahlman, an Ijams Naturalist and fungi enthusiast.

Location: This program meets outside the Ijams Nature Center. We will spend the entirety of the class outdoors.
