Celebrate all things wings at the 2021 Ijams Hummingbird Festival, presented by Ergon Terminaling Inc. and The Trust Company of Tennessee! You'll have a great time while you learn about the wonder of wildlife with wings!
BEHIND-THE-SCENES AT THE FESTIVAL 7 AM - 12 PM
- Bird Banding Station - Get a behind-the scenes look at how scientists capture birds, how they are banded, and why banding is important with certified master bander Mark Armstrong! This year, the bird banding station will capture ALL birds, including hummingbirds! Remember: Like most birds, hummingbirds are MOST ACTIVE early in the morning, so your best chance of seeing a ruby-throated hummingbird is at the beginning of the event! NOTE: To ensure your safety, entry for the bird banding station will be scheduled in 30-minute sessions and attendance will be limited in each group to ensure an excellent, safe experience. PLEASE note which time slot you sign up for!
- Community Science Opportunities - Learn how to do real research NOW; it's easier than you think!
- Meet the Ijams Animal Ambassadors - Get up close and personal with some of the animals who call Ijams home.
- Guided Nature Hikes - Join expert teacher naturalists on guided walks that focus on a variety of bird-related topics. Explore Ijams' trails to witness the natural wonders that are at your fingertips year round!
IJAMS HUMMINGBIRD FESTIVAL 8 AM-2 PM
- Speaker Sessions - Experts share their knowledge on nature topics that celebrate the wonders of the winged world.
- Kids' Area with Educational Booths - Educational areas with engaging activities for all ages to explore and celebrate the wonders of birds and all things with wings.
- Dipnetting - Head out to the ponds to look for life! Also, watch for butterflies, birds, dragonflies, beetles, and other winged creatures!
- Guided Nature Walks - Take a relaxed walk in the woods; learn about Ijams and the wildlife that calls it home.
- Live Raptor Demonstrations - Learn more about and experience close encounters with owls, hawks, falcons, and other birds of prey. FREE
- Marketplace - Enjoy visiting festival sponsors, environmental organizations, and booths featuring local fine art and crafts, plants, garden decor, food trucks, and more! FREE
- Educational Materials for Parents and Families - Get fun, educational materials to work on with kids at home! FREE
